Incidentally, Daniel and Winifred were not on board or present, the ship was on the quay for some minor repairs and loading of goods.
On April 18, 1939 in the port of Le Havre, the S.S.Paris was on fire.
As a result of the amount of fire-extinguishing water "released" on the ship, the S.S.Paris capsized on its port side and then sank off the quay and thereby also blocked the dry dock.
The S.S.Paris remained in its place during the entire Second World War, where it had sunk. In 1946, when the S.S. Liberté (the former German ocean liner S.S.Europa) broke loose in a storm and rammed the S.S.Paris after which the S.S.Liberté sank.
